Canto degli Scali Florence

On the Arno with the Renaioli

The charm of a tradition on Florence's riverbanks

One of the most engaging experiences you can have during your stay in Florence is a boat ride with the Renaioli on the placid waters of the Arno River.

The Renaioli are prominent figures in Florence’s historical tradition.
They were workers who, in the first half of the 1900s, took sand or gravel from the Arno River using special boats. Today their figure is renewed within the association of the same name, which promotes cultural meetings and specific activities: rides and tours on the river to discover glimpses of Florence from an unprecedented point of view that brings to light its timeless charm.

Following a careful restoration of the original boats used last century, the Renaioli organize river outings for citizens and tourists lasting 45 minutes, from May to September: a route that starts from Ponte alle Grazie, passes under the romantic Ponte Vecchio and reaches Ponte alla Carraia skirting the San Frediano neighborhood.

A river ride through the historic center of Florence to enjoy unprecedented views of the city.
